Start with the same project description
Give each business the same sketch, approximate dimensions, intended use and access information. State which choices remain open. Ask each provider to distinguish an estimate based on your description from a proposal based on a site assessment.
Read allowances and exclusions
Highlight items described as allowances, optional work or owner responsibilities. Ask what happens when the actual ground or access differs from the assumption. A missing line is an unanswered question, not evidence that the work is free.
Record who does what
Identify the business performing the work, who handles approvals, how changes are documented and what payment terms apply. Verify required license and insurance directly. Keep the final agreement and product care instructions.
A decision at a glance
| Part | Consider | Confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Preparation | What is assessed or removed? | Listed work versus an allowance |
| Placement | What dimensions and finish? | Same usable footprint |
| Completion | What cleanup and access plan? | When the space can be used |
